World Commemoration Day for Road Traffic Victims
‘The way in which a country responds to the fatalities and serious injuries in traffic indicates the importance it grants to road safety’
Sunday, 16 November 2008, during the VIII edition of “Tears Road” project Romanian citizens are joining the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims Day in commemoration of the World Road Traffic Victims.
This year the action will take place at the “Universitate” Square the most crowded intersection in Bucharest on Sunday November 16, between 10.00 and 16.00, with the participation of Police Brigade Road. Besides deposition of flowers and lighting candles to commemorate victims in increasingly number each year in our country, we will share flyers to drivers who stop at traffic lights and pedestrians.
Come join us Sunday, November 16, at 10.00, at the mouth of the Subway “ Universitate”- National Theatre Bucharest!
Your support is very important you this Sunday, along with “Tear Road”, support the cause of life and is the first step towards change. What can we do?
We can get there, we can know each other, we can find ways to make a contribution, we can deliver a flyer, in a pragmatic world, we can involve in a better cause.
Road accidents are the main cause of violent deaths and serious injuries worldwide and World Day commemoration draws attention to the enormous proportions: 1.3 million deaths every year – a 11 September 2001 every day! In 2007, in Romania, road accidents have taken the lives of 2794 people, with 316 more than in 2007, while 7031 were seriously injured, with 1740 more than in the previous year.
Thus, every year, millions of people injured and affected from every corner of the world are added to the list of millions who are already suffering as a result of the road accidents. This very special day of commemoration comes as a response to this major disaster for public health by recognizing the losses and pain suffered by victims of road accidents and the impact on communities and their countries.
Commemorated in 1993 by the victims organizations under the umbrella of the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR) this day was passed in October 2005 by the United Nations as World Day of commemoration and became an important day not only for the affected victims and injured, but and for many others who dedicate prevent accidents or face the effects.
